Governor Matt Mead has appointed William L. (Bill) Simpson to be District Court Judge for the Fifth Judicial District. Simpson fills the vacancy occurring in the District’s Park County, Cody office with the retirement of Judge Steven Cranfill effective July 31, 2017.

Wyoming Supreme Court Participates In Girls & Boys State Activities

Miss Piggy, resplendent in a cocktail dress, white gloves and a string of pearls, gave opening testimony at the trial of the State vs. Alexander T. Wolf (aka the Big Bad Wolf) for committing two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. Mr. Wolf allegedly caused the undue suffering of little pigs Pork and Babe, which compelled them to seek safety in Miss Piggy’s brick house (Kermit the Frog was visiting at the time). Supreme Court Justice Kate Fox and some of the Court’s staff attorneys provided a rendition of the classic fairy tale as a mock trial for the 2017 Girls State delegates on June 12th.

Governor Matt Mead has appointed F. Scott Peasley to be District Court Judge for the Eighth Judicial District. Peasley fills the vacancy occurring in Converse County with the retirement of Judge John Brooks effective August 4, 2017. The District serves Converse, Niobrara, Platte and Goshen Counties.

Congratulations to Retiring Judge Wade Waldrip

Not only will District Judge Wade Waldrip be sorely missed as a jurist, he’ll also be missed as a “law school recruiter” when he retires his black robe. Barb Casados, the judge’s Judicial Assistant, commented, “He has been an inspiration to a lot of people—at least two newspaper reporters, one student intern, and one defendant have graduated from law school because of his influence.”

Update on Court Technology Initiatives

The Office of Court Administration continues to work diligently on the information technology projects currently underway. Since the previous update, the case management system committees for both the circuit and district courts have continued to meet weekly to familiarize themselves with the system and continue work on configuring FullCourt Enterprise to coincide with the needs of the State. The committees have also participated in another round of gap sessions with Justice Systems Inc. to review the system’s functionality and attempt to recognize the gaps in the system where additional functionality may be needed.
